The Bayelsa Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of a mother of three after her decomposing body was discovered in a gutter along Akali Street in the Etegwe area of Yenagoa, the state capital.
ASP Musa Mohammed, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He indicated that a police team had removed the corpse and launched an inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, but the investigation is ongoing to trace those responsible for the tragic incident.
The woman’s lifeless body, emitting a foul odor, was found on Sunday morning in the drainage where she had been discarded. Eyewitnesses noted signs that suggested she may have been strangled before being dumped in the gutter.
Residents of Akali Street identified the deceased as Ese, originating from Egbo community in Delta. She was engaged in the trade of cow skin, commonly known as Kpomo, at the Opolo market in Yenagoa. It was further mentioned that she had separated from her husband in April 2023.
