Tigran Gambaryan, a senior executive of Binance Holdings Limited, is being held at Kuje prison in Abuja per the orders of Justice Emeka Nwite, the head of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The decision was rendered today, April 8, following Gambaryan’s not guilty plea to the accusations of money laundering that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had brought against him.
The judge then set a hearing for April 18 to consider Gambaryan’s bail request and set May 2 as the start date for the substantive charge proceedings.
A second Binance executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla, was also detained by the Federal Government in March on suspicion of being involved in money laundering and terrorism funding.
Anjarwalla, who is Binance’s Africa Regional Manager, escaped from detention in Abuja while Gambaryan is in custody.
