Since the inception of football, we have seen talented players grace the pitch in an attempt to make a name for themselves. As we move further in this article, we’ll look at various attacking teams that have been considered as one of the best in football history.
1. Manchester United (1999/2000):
Although Manchester United won the treble in the previous season, the 1999/2000 season saw goals flowing in large numbers for Alex Ferguson’s men. In a stellar season filled with 97 league goals, Manchester United led by Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won the Premier League with a difference of 18 points.
2. Ajax (1994/1995):
Under Louis Van Gaal, Ajax were terrorists in front of goal. Bagging 106 league goals, they won the league title that season with a difference of 7 points. Their brilliant attacking football, made it look like they were scoring goals for fun, and it helped them win the Champions League trophy that season too.
3. Real Madrid (2011/2012):
Under Jose Mourinho, Real Madrid set a record of scoring 121 goals in 38 games, scoring 174 times the whole season. Cristiano Ronaldo spearheaded the goalscoring exploits, scoring 60 in all competitions, with Karim Benzema scoring 32 and Gonzalo Higuain scoring 26. Real Madrid won the La Liga title that season, with more than 100 points and 89 goal difference.
4. Chelsea (2009/2010):
Carlo Ancelotti’s side were terrific in front of goal with Didier Drogba, and Nicolas Anelka leading the attack. Setting a record of 100 Premier League goals in a season, Chelsea were the most irresistible English goalscoring force that season.
5. Barcelona (2014-2017):
As an attacking team led by Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar Jr, Barcelona proved to be the deadliest team in Europe at that time. In the 2014/2015 season, Messi, Suarez and Neymar scored a combined 121 goals that season. In the 2015/2016, they shared a spoil of 131 goals, and in the 2016/2017 season, they scored a total of 111 goals.
