The Confederation Cup, the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) second-tier club competition, may soon be discontinued, according to reports.
The Confederation Cup was created in 2004 when the CAF Cup and the African Cup Winners’ Cup were combined. However, its future is unclear.
The African Football League was introduced by CAF last year, with eight clubs at first. Plans are already in place to broaden its scope in order to include additional participants.
The African Football League will rise to prominence as the top club competition on the continent as a result of this change. As a result, the CAF Champions League will become Africa’s secondary club competition.
In addition, the winner of the African Football League will guarantee the coveted FIFA Club World Cup position for the continent.
