Lukman Iyke Bede investigates the grievance of a disgruntled player named Issa Lukman, who is demanding to be paid the remaining N13 million even though he and Bet9Ja signed a final and comprehensive payment agreement some months prior.
Issa Lukman, a dissatisfied bettor who used the Bet9JA platform, has returned to the internet and is claiming that the bookmaker has denied him his right. This comes after a few months ago, Bet9JA gave him N3 million from his N16 million winnings.
On Sunday, September 10, 2023, Lukman went to the Bet9JA store at 20 Shadare Compound, Iddo, Lagos, to place bets on 37 games spread over multiple days in the hopes of winning despite the extremely high odds. Using ticket number B928CTTCZSPWRE-10675073, he bet N1,000 in hopes of winning N16,705,938.18.
He found out he had won at the end of the last game and went to the shop, only to find that the ticket had been cashed out days before by someone else, who seemed to have the exact same ticket. Confused by this turn of events, he went to the headquarters of the sports betting website to file a grievance.
By October 5, 2023, N3 million had been moved from a Providus Bank account to his account by a person named Bamigbade Gbenga. Lukman has garnered support from internet users by anticipating that the remaining portion of his money will be paid.
“I went to the gambled 9JA store at No. 20, Shadare Compound, Iddo, Lagos State, and I gambled with ticket number B928CTTCZSPWRE-10675073. I won N16,705,938.18 (sixteen million seven hundred and eighty) at that location.
According to the affidavit, the person in question had previously settled their disagreement with the defendant amicably after being paid. The declaration verified he was paid in full, even though it did not specifically specify N3 million. However, it did not explain how they came to a mutually agreeable solution.
In order to learn more about the situation, we spoke with Adewale Akande, Head of Legal at Bet9Ja, to find out why Lukman is still demanding to be paid the remaining N13 million even after several months have passed.
“The person was meant to win N16 million, but I don’t know how the cashier who had first written an original ticket and a’second’ original ticket managed to do that while the game was still going on. No one outside of operations would know; provided.
The ticket was forwarded to the agent, who unintentionally approved it, and they were paid N1.7 million, he continued. Unfortunately for them, the game was a winning ticket—possibly because they have been doing this for a while. The client arrived to claim his winnings, and he is obviously entitled to them. They realized the ticket had already been paid out at that point.
Upon conducting an investigation, they found that the cashier had acted with her boyfriend’s consent. A few weeks ago, the two of them were apprehended by the police, taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (Panti), held, and charged in magistrate court.
Taking into account the situation of the bettor, which was neither the bettor’s nor Bet9JA’s.
According to Akande’s explanation, the customer and Bet9JA came to a deal, and they were paid N3 million. He then committed to receiving N3 million as his prizes’ complete and final payment.
The unidentified cashier’s boyfriend is a party to the ongoing legal dispute.
