Former Manchester United player David Beckham has highlighted the value of intrinsic drive for the Red Devils, saying that they should approach every game—including the forthcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City—with the mindset that they have to win.
The squad is going through a difficult time right now; after some poor performances, they are currently in ninth place in the Premier League rankings. Beckham made these comments.
Beckham feels that players should find inspiration inside themselves and accept personal responsibility for their performances, rather than depending only on outside sources, even in light of the strain manager Erik ten Hag is under.
Thinking back on his personal experiences, Beckham emphasized the need to have a constant mindset no matter what the situation, and to use their past successes as motivation.
Beckham’s remarks serve as a reminder for Manchester United players to uphold the club’s values and rise to the occasion with unshakable enthusiasm and devotion as they get ready for upcoming pivotal matches.
Beckham told talkSPORT, “You’d hope that the manager [Ten Hag] doesn’t have to do much.”
“I believe that participating in these important games and representing Manchester United are the main goals.”
When you play professional football, you should be driven because you’re working at a team you love and doing what you love for a living.
“That ought to be sufficient incentive, whether it’s a game during the regular season or the FA Cup final against your competitors.
“You’re playing the wrong sport and on the wrong team if it isn’t.
“I believe that ultimately, we approached every match—be it a friendly, a European Cup final, or a Youth Cup match—with the same mindset and the same level of determination.
Any Manchester United team and player would want to enter the FA Cup final with that.
“I hope our accomplishments can serve as an inspiration to the current players.”
On May 25, Man United and Man City will square off in the FA Cup final.
