Cristiano Ronaldo, the star player for Al Nassr, received a red card on Monday during a Saudi Super Cup match for elbowing an Al-Hilal player.
When Otavio scored at the end of the first half, Ronaldo and his teammates thought they had the advantage. Their joy was short-lived, though, as a review of the goal disallowed it and exposed Ronaldo’s effort to play the ball from offside.
Ronaldo got into a furious argument with the referee after the decision, clearly upset about it. When Otavio, who was onside when the ball was played, managed to get to the center of the box without Ronaldo making contact with it, his irritation level increased even more.
The referee gave Ronaldo a yellow card when he protested. But when he lost control and struck out at an Al-Hilal player late in the game with his team behind 2-0, his day took a turn for the worst. He was given a straight red card.
After being given a red card, Ronaldo showed his displeasure by raising his fist at the referee and mockingly cheering him as he left the field.
