The social networking app TikTok has piqued the interest of American artist Soulja Boy.
Following the signing of a foreign aid package into law by US President Joe Biden, which would see the Chinese-owned social media platform banned in the US if it is not sold within nine months, the rapper becomes the first to express interest in purchasing TikTok.
Soulja Boy criticized the new rule on his X handle, claiming that if American authorities prohibit TikTok, they can ban any other app or website going forward.
“It’s incredible that you guys are going to allow TikTok to be banned in that way. And you guys find it humorous. They can do it to any app or website if they do it to this one. Not nice for everyone to see later,” he wrote.
The rapper made a lighthearted suggestion in another post that he would purchase TikTok.
How much do you all want for TikTok, Soulja Boy wrote? I will purchase that. @tiktok_us.
TikTok has promised to challenge the new law in court.
In a statement, the app’s representative, Alex Haurek, declared that the rule was “unconstitutional” and promised to “challenge it in court.”
