National Police Day will be observed on April 7, as declared by President Bola Tinubu. This statement was delivered on Monday night at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja during the first-ever Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu, who underlined the value of giving police officers chances for capacity-building and training in order to improve their efficacy in contemporary policing.
He disclosed that the first week of April has been declared Police Week by the Federal Government, with April 7th being set aside as National Police Day in Nigeria. Tinubu emphasized that the country is dedicated to respecting and assisting the police in their crucial job of defending the nation.
“I want to be clear tonight that you are not just thought of as our country’s guards or as mindless machines.
“Our intention in being here is to recognize your humanity.
“Thanks to the commitment of the police force, residents have survived security threats and assaults on their lives and livelihoods during a period when Nigeria’s security landscape is being pushed to its absolute maximum.
“Your remarkable courage not only embodies the highest form of patriotism that unites us, but also inspires confidence that better days are ahead.”
