Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has formed an action group to combat sexual assault by deploying mobile courts and other tactics. The agreements that the Osun State government and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs made are the source of this effort.
According to a statement released by Governor Adeleke’s spokeswoman, Olawale Rasheed, the governor reiterated his pledge to swiftly implement the recommendations taken by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum during a meeting with the Federal Minister of Women Affairs.
These rulings include the creation of specialized Mobile Courts to address issues of child maltreatment, particularly in the form of street begging, and concerns of sexual and gender-based violence. The program also aims to speed up the trial procedure for mothers and kids incarcerated.
In addition, he stated that he has given his Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice instructions to draft an executive order releasing all wrongfully imprisoned women in the state during Lent, Easter, and Ramadan.
“As part of our commitment to safeguarding women’s rights, the Ministry of Justice will compile a comprehensive list of affected women throughout the state to be pardoned through executive action,” he declared.
“Governor Adeleke has established an action committee in accordance with the agreements reached with the Federal Ministry and the position of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum. The Attorney General is represented by the Governor’s Office on this committee, together with the Commissioners for Women Affairs, Hon. (Mrs.) Ayobola Awolowo, and Federal Affairs, Hon. (Mrs.) Adenike Adeleke.
The Honorable Moshood Olagunju, Commissioner for Youth Development, and Abisola Ariwodola, Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) for Osun State, are among the other members of the group.
“The committee’s mandate is to implement the resolutions outlined in the joint meeting between the state governor and the Federal Minister of Women Affairs.”
