In the Sabon Gari region of Kano State, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced the seizure of almost 900,000 opioid pills. In relation to this seizure, two individuals were detained on April 9, according to Mr. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson.
In addition, Babafemi said that another suspect, 48 years old, was taken into custody in Calabar’s Essit Ebum neighborhood on the same day that 39.4 kg of sativa cannabis was found. In addition, a logistics truck with the license plate JGB 403XB was stopped on Friday by NDLEA agents cruising the Imo State route between Owerri and Onitsha.
The defendant was apprehended after a comprehensive investigation revealed 230 blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing 119 kg, concealed under household items in the vehicle.
Babafemi claims that on Saturday, during a raid in the Ijesa-Isu woodland in Ekiti, 252 kilograms of cannabis were found.
He added that in Agho village, Owan-East, Edo State, suspects were arrested while putting 40 kg of the same material inside a gas truck’s engine compartment.
“Two motorcycles used to transport the consignment to the parked gas truck destined for the North were recovered,” he stated.
Babafemi also revealed that in the Imeko region of Ogun State, a suspect was apprehended on Friday in possession of 79 kg of cannabis. Furthermore, during an NDLEA operation at the Obatedo camp in the Itaogbolu forest, Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State, an 18-year-old was apprehended in possession of 410 kg of the same material.
“He emphasized that the agency’s commands nationwide have diligently pursued the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign throughout the previous week,” he said.
Among the measures cited were WADA sensitization lectures for officers and troops of the Nigerian Army’s 15 Engineering Field Regiment in Topo, Badagry, Lagos State, as well as for students and staff at Gboko Polytechnic in Benue State.
